About South Africa
South Africa, officially the Republic of South Africa, is the southernmost country in Africa. It is bounded to the south by 2,798 kilometres of coastline that stretches along the South Atlantic and Indian Oceans; to the north by the neighbouring countries of Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe; and to the east and northeast by Mozambique and Eswatini.
It also completely enclaves the country Lesotho. It is the southernmost country on the mainland of the Old World, and the second-most populous country located entirely south of the equator, after Tanzania.
South Africa is a biodiversity hotspot, with unique biomes, plant and animal life. With over 62 million people, the country is the world's 23rd-most populous nation and covers an area of 1,221,037 square kilometres.
Pretoria is the administrative capital, while Cape Town, as the seat of Parliament, is the legislative capital. Bloemfontein has traditionally been regarded as the judicial capital. The largest city, and site of highest court is Johannesburg.
About 80% of the population are Black South Africans. The remaining population consists of Africa's largest communities of European (White South Africans), Asian (Indian South Africans and Chinese South Africans), and multiracial (Coloured South Africans) ancestry. South Africa is a multi-ethnic society encompassing a wide variety of cultures, languages, and religions. Its pluralistic makeup is reflected in the constitution's recognition of 12 official languages, the fourth-highest number in the world.[16] According to the 2011 census, the two most spoken first languages are Zulu (22.7%) and Xhosa (16.0%).[20] The next two are of European origin: Afrikaans (13.5%) developed from Dutch and serves as the first language of most Coloured and White South Africans; English (9.6%) reflects the legacy of British colonialism and is commonly used in public and commercial life.

On the contrary, Sahaja Yoga is to unite all the people in the name of God, to make them one in the name of God. Supposing there is somebody living, say, in South Africa or, say, in a far-fetched place like Benin and all that — has become a Sahaja Yogi. There are thousands who have become Sahaja Yogis there. They are all your bothers and sisters. They’re your own. You go there and they will treat you just like their own children, their own relations. They will never think what religion you come from or what sect you come from, nothing. I was surprised the way they have love. Actually, loving is an innate quality of human beings. It’s an innate quality. Every human being has been given this treasure of loving, loving capacity. But that capacity has become so much less, so much minimum, that, with that capacity, people fight and kill each other. It’s a greatest sin to kill people in the name of religion.

I had been not too well by the third week after the 1990 India tour began. It was at the Krishna River where it all came to a head. I was taken to Shri Mataji and laid at Her Feet. She placed Her Feet on me and She massaged my head with oil and She shouted at the negativity to go away. It was all quite bewildering, but beautiful and wonderful at the same time because there was Mother really helping me to sort all this out.
After that beautiful experience, I started to have the most extraordinary feeling of thoughtless awareness. For a brief time, I experienced a satchitananda beyond words. We were on our way to Kolhapur the day this happened and for three days I was still quite ill. My thyroid had collapsed. One of the things Shri Mataji had said while working on me was, 'You must drink. I was very bad at drinking, but I tried to drink at least two litres of water a day.
"You don't want to end up in an Indian hospital, She said. 'You might not ever come out again,' which was enough to frighten me.
What I experienced in those next three days was a sense of euphoria. I don't quite know how to express it. It seemed as if there was a video playing and about six feet in front of me was a spot and everything was flowing out of me into this spot. Whether my eyes were closed or open this continued. There were some really lovely things and some really uncomfortable things, but I was able to witness whatever it was and this obviously was a clearing. It eventually stopped, but for two nights I almost didn't sleep. I was just in this state of wonderful, peaceful awareness of everything around me. I wasn't tired and was able to eat again. By the time we had the puja in Kolhapur, I knew this was my opportunity to go to Shri Mataji and thank Her for everything that She had done for me.
I was sitting at the back and, as the ladies were invited to go up, it seemed impossible to get there because there were so many people in front and as I reached the stage, there were already seven ladies there. 'No, stay,' the person who was there said. I don't know how common this is because usually seven are invited, but I was the eighth and was somehow allowed to stay. It was such a gift.
I was in the middle and the mirror was placed in my hands and I knew that I was holding the reflection of the universe to Mother. I knew I had to be extremely still. The mirror was very big and I couldn't see anything. I sat there for what seemed like hours. It was probably about twenty minutes, but Mother gave me the strength. I couldn't see them decorate Mother's Feet or anything, and I was quite sad about that.
The mirror was taken away and I was handed the tray with the crown on it and was to place the crown on Mother's head. And in that moment, everything that I had wanted to do for Mother was answered. I couldn't fasten the tie at the back of Her head, and my attention was on Mother's head for quite some time, until someone rescued me. But it was obviously all for a purpose and to this day I feel enormously blessed.
When I got back to South Africa and was tested, the tests came out very extreme. The doctor said he had never seen anyone with such a badly collapsed thyroid walking around and that I should have been on a drip in a hospital. I mentioned that I had had a healing from a very special lady in India.
'Well, that's it,' he said. 'Because other than that, it is impossible that you are still functioning the way you are. So that was a miracle.

Born in the UK, moved to Cape Town, South Africa in the 60's.
Stayed there until her passing in 2023 at the age of 80 years old.
